EXCERPTS PAGE - A PASSING SKY

Wellman returned his gaze to the growing sunset.  There was an inherent and intrinsic symbolism that a setting sun represented that had never set well with him, at least since his days from the war, he figured.  He hated endings.  They ate at him like a child chewing on a piece of candy, and a setting sun represented the ending of another day.  Another day with unsettled inner peace, another day without resolve, another day left feeling the fragilities of life, and another day of emptiness.

As he watched the sun bid its farewell, his thoughts turned to Sky.  A woman, the woman, that he had met in the past two years.  The mutual attraction was physically powerful, yet they both agreed to take it slow, build the foundation of friendship first, then take it from there into the romantic fold of their communion next.  They were two friends building a relationship of trust, communication, and likeness, and they had a healthy dependency for one another. They reasoned that if they built the foundation correctly, just as all the so called ‘experts’ say you should, that their love, passion and intimacy would nurture and grow itself.

However, it wasn’t.  The relationship stalled somewhere after the foundation had been built and Wellman knew it.  And at least on his part… they were stuck in friendshipville.  And now, Sky was on the brink of accepting a once in a lifetime opportunity that would force her to move from Sandstone Ridge back to her home state of New Mexico.  The thought of her leaving made his heart sink, but the thought of opening up and committing to her made him squirm in his seat.
